Night Fishing Trip Rained out!

The weather messed up our plans for night wade fishing. So we fished in the rain all day. I had forgot how peaceful it is to fish in a light rain (without lightning). It keeps the fair weather fishermen at home. We had the run of the bay, only seen 6 boat all day. Normally you will see 30 to 40 boats from one spot along the south shore line. When you run down the bay there are boats from one end to the other.

The three of us, did still go in early and started with topwaters. Two bone/silver/bone and one black w/ chartruse head. The topwater bite has been slow of late. I caught a redfish on top pretty quick and soon changed to the ol' reliable cocahoe minnow. I do this to see which bait they prefer. After several cast and numerious hook ups it was obvious the topwater was not the hot bait. The other two anglers who were with me were to dedicated to topwaters and it show'd when we returned to the boat.

I had strung 2 flounder, three speckled trout and one redfish. I also released 5 other redfish and lost the largest speck I have hooked in a long time. She hit with only 5 foot of line out, I seen her take the lure. After I set the hook, I loosened the drag because I had her on such a short leash. After three long runs I told the guy closest to me that it was a monster trout and I wasn't going to keep her. She must have heard me and spit the hook. I would like to have toched her. I feel she was at least 28". 8 or 9 lbs. Anyway...the other guys had one fish each strung.

We moved to another area...not much bait and less fish. Moved again, more bait and more fish. I was back on topwaters and hooked a big redfish. What a power full fish! After I landed that fish I had another blow up...but it missed the hooks. The area went dead after thet.

We moved out to deeper water and found the birds working a school of trout. Over with the trolling motor and off we went. As long as we stayed close to the birds, it was every cast hook-ups. Not big fish, but lots of fish. The school finally sounded and din't come back up.

We called it a day.

Got a new digital camera . What ya think?
