Top Water Action Heating Up.

I just received a report that the speckled trout action has busted wide open. On the central coast of Texas the top water action is out standing. My dad and a friend of his caught around 180 trout during a three day stretch last week. They threw some plastics, but had little reponse. The hot color was the black body/chartreuse head "She Dog" by Mirror Lure.

Most of the freash water run off has cleared the bays. Fishing should stay hot at least till temps drop below 45 degrees and stay there.

Don't forget to vary your retrieve. People here like to really "walk the dog", but at times they need to slow it down in the cooler weather. At times even stopping it and letting it lay motionless. Don't get caught in a rut and keeping working it the same way if your not getting bit.

It's Top Water Time Texas Style!

I have noticed that I get alot off my hits on top water when I stop the lure and wait a second. Learned this by accident, stopping to grab a drink or some Skoal or something. Kind of like they know it's dyin' so they just wait for it to stop fightin'!

Welcome to A/C speck buster

At times I have seen redfish blowup on the lure before you even have a chance to move it. If we are fishing an area that has a lot of redfish we wait about a 3 seconds before we ever move the lure.

Now that our water temp has dropped we have most of our strikes come while the lure is lying still or moving very slowly.

I've done that myself. Usually I cast out, count to ten-20, Pop the lure once and count to 10-20 again before retrieving.

Worked pretty well this trip.

I wish. It was too windy most of the day to do any casting with a flyrod. It wasn't until late afternoon that I was able to switch to a flyrod. The rest were topwater lures.

The picture was from last March out of Sea Drift, TX.

How far are you from Austin?
