I got home late last night from the lease, so I'm just now getting to file a report.
I went to the ol' deer lease to hunt hogs and hog speckled trout. To make a short story shorter I didn't get either one.
I seen one big boar hog, but he was not in bow range.
Sunday morning a group of four of us hit the water a little late and didn't catch more than 10 between us. We ran out on the open bay and found some birds working over trout, but they were all small. Monday morning (everyone else had to go to work) my dad and I caught and released a bunch of future trophy specks. We caught around 35 trout in about three hours. I had one run of 6 back to back casts that had hook-ups. The fish were running from 14" to 19".
We were in the water (we were wading) before first light throwing topwaters. We had two each before I changed to the "secret" bait I used during the Texas Oilmans Tourny. The Habanero Norton Sand eel's rigged on 1/8oz lead heads. Even with the water in the upper 50's the trout were aggressive enough that you didn't have to work it slow. Topwater bait was the Mirror Lure SheDog-black with a chartruse head.
We were fishing over a mud bottom with clumps of oyster. Wish I had taken some cracker and cocktail sauce, we could have ate lunch right there. Most of the fish were holding in 3 1/2 foot of water.
Sorry no photos, with all the clothes there wasn't room for a cmera in my waders. Only problem with catch and release. NO PROOF!
