in the lakes and ponds i fish, the prodominant cover is weeds, both submerged and surface cover like reeds. will cats use this for cover or do they stick to wood and rocks for cover?

I'd have to think that the catfish would relate to the weeds... particularly if the predominant food source also relates to these weeds. Can you determine what the forage is?

Flathead catfish like cover they can get under like submerged trees or undercut banks. They want to have something over their heads either to provide shade or an ambush point they can use to come out of the darkness and strike.



With their large mouths they are capable of engulfing big fish. Flatheads also hunt at night around submerged rock and timber for small fish which tend to use this structure.

If you catch these large predators remember the importance of releasing them for others to enjoy.
