Pontoon Fishing Boats

Has anyone used a pontoon boat for fishing? I fished with a friend who has one and it was pretty darn good for the lake we were on. It was especially comfortable when we fished at night for channel cats. Probably not the thing to sneak up a creek, but sure was nice on the 1,500 acre lake we fished.

I do not know about fishing from the Pontoon as they are a a large boat to be moving around. What we would do is have one on the lake during a two day tournament and tie our Bass Boats up next to it and sleep and eat on the Pontoon.

We now have an 18' Sweetwater Pontoon that is set up for fishing. It has swivel chairs fore and aft, a live well, bow mounted trolling motor, Lowrance X-75 and a handheld Garmin GPS that is mounted on the dash.

Actually we don't take possession until Tuesday, but we are excited.

Sounds like fun and party at the same time as fishing

I just posted on another thread, but pontoons are great. Esp for night fishing or tie up and sleep on it. Make coffee or cook dinner. I had mine up creeks where it touched both sides, they' ll float in very little water. Also safe in big waves. They're great base stations for skiing with friends and great for hunting too. If the kids get bored they can just go to the back and play, the wife can lay out while you fish. I'm starting to wish I had it back.

The pontoon has worked out really well. My wife can either fish or take a nap or read a book. Star, my Airedale, has room to roam. Of course, the padded swivel chairs fore & aft are pretty nice for this old man!

I have it rigged with rod holders, GPS, depth sounder, electric trolling motor and livewell.

Night fishing is great with a pontoon boat. I have lanterns on board and one of those lights that float in the water and draw baitfish.

I bought a cottage on Atwood Lake this year and have a dock. That makes it easy to just drop the lines and head out for some fishing. I see guys towing them, but they are not small. I have a 12' boat on a trailer that I use if I want to try some new water.

I trailered mine without any serious problems. They are not heavy just not very aerodynamic. They can be tricky to drive onto the trailer, but my wife got very good at it, since I back the trailer down.
