OK here is my story.... Due to a limited budget I have allways owned small boats and motors.... Then a few years ago I found a great deal on a 15' bass boat with a 50 hp outboard... I get the boat home and clean it all up and get it ready to take to the lake... So the next weekend I take the boat to a local fish camp to launch it... I pull up at the ramp, PROUD as can be that now I am one of the big boys.... I unload the boat and drive it over to the dock like I was a pro bass fisherman.... I see a friend of mine and call him over to look at my boat... As we are talking he says " how come your bildge pump is running ? " to which I replay " I must have left the plug out and the bildge pump came on, don't worry I say, I just put that pump in and it will pump more water that can come in the hole... In fact the bildge needed flushing anyway".. I figure I'll put the plug in before I go fishing. So I go in to the store at the camp to see who else I can show off to... I stand there talking to the owner of the camp and his son... His son goes out to look at the boat and is gone for a few minutes...
He comes back and is laughing so hard that I thought he might have a heartatack or something... When he can finally talk again he says " you mean the boat that is sitting on the bottom ? "
Out the door I go and sure enough, My boat is sitting on the bottom in about five feet of water.... After getting soaked and covered with mud and help from a bunch of people we got that boat back floating again.... What caused it to sink was the plastic wrapper off of the oil container. It got sucked into the pump and plugged it up...
I truth it serves me right, I should have put the plug in before lauching the boat or got my arm wet and did it when we noticed the bildge pump come on.... Needless to say after all was said and done I felt like a fool.....

Here in Arizona - Phx area we have several "small" lakes. One in particular is Saguaro Lake. This lake is close to the city. During the summer it gets very crowded with skiers, PWC's pleasure boaters and of course fisherman.
This lake gets so crowded that the Forest Service who has jurisdiction of the lake constructed an overflow lot near the lake.
The two - three lane launch ramps are just pure fun to watch.
Last summer while launching I watched this couple trying to load their brand new pontoon boat. The husband had backed the trailer in while the wife tried to drive the rig onto the trailer.
He was shouting out instructions to an obviously nervous wife.
Poor woman managed to get the boat sideways to the trailer. Her husband shouted, "raise the motor, raise the motor"
She raised the motor while running. As the boat swung around the prop, intersected the aluminum/steel dock. The prop lost all its blades and made an expensive sounding noise.
I felt really bad for her, dumb A$$ husband proceeded to chew her out in front of everybody.

Maybe that's why in Michigan we've got signs all over the launch/retrieve ramps that say "NO power loading !"
This didn't happen to me but I witnessed it.
A buddy and I were just coming in from a nice morning of fishing.
It was late morning on a Saturday (on Lake St. Clair in Michigan).
This lake gets EXTREMELY BUSY on the weekends during the summer so we hit the water just before sunrise and put in a few good hours and get the heck out of there before it gets NUTS.
Anyway, as I was tying off the lines and my buddy was getting ready to go get the truck to pull the boat out we were watching a guy with his S-10 trying to pull his boat out. His wheels were spinning like heck and the poor truck just BARELY had enough guts to get the boat and trailer moving up the ramp. He was just barely able to get the wheels up out of the water and that was it. The truck just wouldn't do anymore. I notice water pouring out of the bilge pump AND the MAIN DRAIN ! I knew right then what had happened. Apparently just before we arrived the poor guys boat was on the bottom. With the weight of all that water that S-10 just couldn't budge it. So, he stopped were it was and decided to let it drain/pump out for a bit. It kept on draining the WHOLE TIME we were getting our boat out. As we were pulling our boat and getting ready to pull up to the tie-down area I looked at the guy who was standing there looking completely DISGUSTED (as you'd expect). There were a few people around making comments and we heard him say (kind of under his breath) "I used to laugh at guys who did this". We about lost it.
I guess it's true what they say, "Paybacks are a B____ !"
Actually, my father always had boats when I was a kid but I didn't get my own until this past spring. I got a great deal on a little 12' that I bought to use on the little inland lakes near my home. The first time I took it out this spring, I did the SAME THING ! Launched it and pulled away to park the truck. When I came back, it was on the bottom. About a month after I bought the 12 I picked up a nice 16' that I haven't as of yet pulled this trick with. I think I'll try to avoid that for a while.
A few years back I had purchased my first boat and trailer. A pretty Tri-Hull with the all the works, trolling motor, fish finder, livewell, etc. Any way as with all rookies I was slow on getting the boat in the water. After two succesfull launches I felt I was ready for the big times, so I entered the wife and myself in a fishing tournment.
This particular lake had an extremely long ramp. You had to back down from the top as there was not enough room in between the top and launch area to turn.
I waited approx. 1 hour for my turn to launch and proceeded down the ramp. I didn't quite keep it straight and had to stop a few times and straighten up. At this point the next boat in line decided I was too slow. He proceded straight down truck first and forced me to the side, he then proceded to take another 15 minutes turning his rig around by backing and then going forward, backing and then going forward, several times until he was in position to launch. His launch of course was smooth with out fault. After he placed his boat in the water he passed me on the way up and had a few choice words for "me" the novice. A few other boaters had some words for him.
I then made it down and launched my boat. The wife then took the truck and trailer up to the parking lot. After I had secured my boat to the dock, I then waited for the wife to return. The wife returned and as we started underway we noticed a boat floating towards the shoreline with out anybody onboard. The problem was this shoreline was nothing but rocks. As I wasn't that familar with lake and a "novice" I decided there was nothing I could do. The boat took a bad beating on the rocks.
After the tournment was over we found out that the boat belonged to the gentleman who had crowded his way in front of us at the launch ramp. He evidently didn't secure his boat at the dock very well, and it drifted. He didn't get a chance to fish the tournament, but we did, not that we won anything big, but we did catch fish.
At the time I felt he deserved what he got, but now I look back and think, what a shame the boat was damaged.
bought a brand new skeeter a few years back.Took it to the lake the first weekend with a friend, only to find the lake chocked up with people snagging for spoonbill.(nothing agaist snaggers).15 mile boatride,up on plane, slow down,up on plane, slow down, you get the picture. Finally arive at our destination,we catch fish all day.As we are leaving, the officer informed me that i was to close to the docks.TICKET.registration is at home on the desk.TICKET. Finally he lets as go,we are back amongst snaggers.speed up,slow down, the same thing again. We finally see a lane ahead with no boats ,everybody is on the south side NOBODY on the northside!!!!Lets go!!!For about 500 yards, and then it happened. The o/b came out of the water and we stop. What the ....??We are stranded as all the snaggers look on and give us the look.We jump out, push the boat of this HUGE flat and take of as soon as we can, looking real stupid!!!!!No wonder nobody was on the north side, duuuu
