Bow fishing this spring?

Do any of you have any spring bowfishing plans? We usually get some excellent Carp/Gar bowfishing in the spring. badcuda

I always wanted to try bowfishing...But something like that is hard to do in an urban area like i'm in.....We've got huge carp up here in the big pond(Lake Michigan) and i'm sure bowfishing for carp would be awesome...The only problem besides where to bowfish...Would be what to do with them afterwards...

printman31, We donate them to Raptor Rehabilitation facilities. I imagine somewhere near you there is a zoo or private organization that would dearly welcome the fresh fish to feed the Eagles, Hawks, Owls ect. You may even receive a tax deduction. Feeding the birds and animals is very expensive. I'd call around before spring gets here. And don't forget, if legal in the summer, night bow fishing is great! badcuda

just curious....whats involved in bowfishing at night???
I find it hard enough in the light of day?

Good to have you join us. Bowfishing at night is usually done in boats that will go into shallow water. Sometimes there is a shooting platform with railing. While the "shooter" stays ready, a "light man/woman" scans the shallows, searching for rough fish (game fish are illegal here). When the fish is spotted, the light person uses only the halo of the light, never putting the light beam directly on the fish (this spooks them). The bowfisher takes aim and releases. Lots of fast action on Carp and Gars. I imagine you would have the dangers on hunting Croc waters. They do grow them big down under. Good fishing, badcuda

last year was the first year I ever heard of it and gave it a try unsucessully for carp and rays (cow nose sting ray). Some friends have it down to an art! As soon as this weather warms up and the carp and rays come back, we'll be out here!

i did this for the first time last summer and im hooked. here in alaska you can shoot pike, white fish, suckers(that i didnt even now we had here) and burbot. so far ive only taken pike in the lake by the house. mostly really small ones but ive seen some in the 10-15# class(well, missed some).

this spring my partner and i were gonna try to make it up north for for suckers and white fish. we'll have to see what happens now that im moving.

a few of us are also trying to get a little turnament put toghether for pike this summer. just friends and family mainly or who ever wants to come play. it should be a blast. trying to decied what lake to go to so there is enough shooting for everyone is the problem right now.

here in the next month were also gonna snowmachine into a lake and try our luck threw the ice(after we cut our hole). this will be an overnighter and should be a blast aswell.

Pike would be a real challenge for sure. We can only take rough fish in TN. Give us the scoop after your ice bowfishing venture. Good fishing, badcuda

I have all the equipment but once I got it it was time to kill deer lol. I'm looking forward to some bowfishing this spring. We've got a place where you hardly have to aim to shoot gar(NOT literally). Its slap full of them. you probly wouldnt have a problem if you had a sharp stick though lol.
